Hair loss after baby has been PRETTY devastating. Not only is your body feeling all over the place and like you are in a foreign country under your own skin, your hair starts falling out. Of course, I thought it was a joke, really, could anything about postpartum or pregnancy for that matter be enjoyable? Everything I have read says you return to normal between 6-12 months after giving birth.

So I don't know about you but it seems like 2 years is how it is, feeling weird, not knowing what is going on with your body. BUT completely thankful for the sweet little baby that we have. Sometimes I have to keep reminding myself of this, that is life though. Think positive.

What can you do about your postpartum Hair Loss?

Here is everything that I tried and what has worked for me.
1. Continue to take your prenatal vitamins especially if you are breastfeeding. These will help your body get everything that you need and of course your sweet baby.

When you are done breastfeeding or before if you don't mind taking multiple vitamins, use a Hair, Skin, and Nails Vitamin. The one I have been using is from Amway. I love it. I saw results within a couple of days. My hair is growing faster, stronger, not to mention my nails look on point.

2. Eat healthy and drink lots of water. The water part especially. I can really tell when I haven't drank enough water not only in my hair but my overall mood postpartum.

3. Get a good hair cut

I went and saw my favorite hair girl, Chris from Blank Salon. Are you in the DMV? (DC, Maryland or Virginia) You will have to check her out. If you book an appointment online she is offering a $10 discount & 10% off all products. She is located in Merrifield. You will feel gorgeous again! I wish I had a before picture so you could see how awful it was.

4. Find an amazing shampoo & conditioner system for hair loss:

I found Kevin Murphy from Chris mentioned above. The plumping line is what worked for me. Here is the Shampoo & Conditioner (It is a plumping Wash & Rinse is what they refer to Shampoo & Conditioner).

Why do I love this stuff?
The smell is awesome. So fresh and clean.
You see results in a couple of days. In all honesty by day 2 my hair wasn't falling out as fast. My hair felt thicker, cleaner, shiny, and just more healthy all around. When I would wash prior to, I would only be able to use my Wet Brush

After using the Shampoo & Conditioner, Kevin Murphy offers a leave-in product for plumping. It is AMAZING. Smells so good and really is the bread and butter to stopping fall out.  I was getting so frustrated with the large clumps in the shower and when brushing. Not only was my body feeling awful and not like myself, my hair is falling out and I feel like man. NO ONE TELLS YOU THIS SIDE effect of postpartum.

You will feel like a whole new women in a couple of days, which I won't lie to you I needed a quick fix. I know the weight and everything else will take a lot more time. But the hair I needed immediate results.

I do notice when I forget to do this step. It seems to help the products keep working all throughout the day.

Plan B:
These are expensive so I have also tried another option that works almost as well.
Anti-Hair Fall Shampoo & Conditioner & Scalp Tonic

This three part system works similarly to the one above. It did take me a week to see results but they were just as good. The smell is refreshing and you do not need a ton of product to make a good lather.

5. Be gentle when you wash your hair, nice and slow moments, using your fingers vs. your whole hand. When you can don't wash at all. Use Dry Shampoo. Here are my favorites:
1. Tresemme Volumizing Dry Shampoo

2.  Not Your Mother's Dry Shampoo

If you have never used Dry Shampoo before it is a life changer, especially with all of the changes of motherhood. I have blonde hair so it is easier to use. Spray it on and swish your hair around with your fingers.

I easily use this every day. I tend to be an oily hair person so I keep a travel size with me as well to refresh whenever I need to.

6. Use a good hair brush that doesn't pull on your hair - RECOMMENDATION Wet Brush is my jam. I love this brush. You can find it in fun colors. Here is a Pink Wet brush with a travel one included.

7. Avoid Heat Styling

And if no one has told you, it will get better. Keep smiling even when it is hard. You are doing an amazing job. Motherhood is a journey. We got this.

Until next time,
